Lucille's Updates

May 2002

Ahhh, the fun is just beginning. Like all good hot-rodders, I can't leave well enough alone. So, keep checking back to see how Lucille evolves. I have a list of goodies a mile-long that will find a place on my new old ride. First to go are the bias-ply whitewalls and wire wheel covers. Yeah, they're original, but I've got a set of BF Goodrich Radial TA's ready to go, mounted on a set of original styled-steel wheels.

Out with the old...notice how narrow the original 14x5" wheels are. Kinda skinny. Check the difference in how much room is left in the fenders with the pics below. The original tires are 185/75-14 white walls. The new wheels are 14x6" styled steel wheels, like what came on the '65 GT's. Much more macho. The tires are wider 205/70-14's. It's a heck of a lot better ride, and they look killer-

Well the little 2-barrel carburetor finally crapped out on me. It put up a valiant struggle, but it was just time to go. So, as long as I'm yanking the carb, I might as well ditch the cast iron intake manifold and go for an aluminum Edelbrock Performer 289, along with a 600cfm Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor. Biiigggg difference in performance. It really woke up the little 289, and now it will kick its heels all day long. looks mighty yummy, too!

New toys...a decent weekend job. Not bad for a jack-leg mechanic. No leaks, no squeaks, no big surprises...now it goes like stink. Purty, ain't it?

Too much going on at one time...I sold Lucille to my friend Tommy in Houston, TX, for some $ plus a 1999 Suzuki SV650. Cleaning out the toy box...
