Taz, the 1974 Ford Bronco 4x4

Updates

September 2002

It's alive!!! Well, sort of. To quote Ralph Nader, its "unsafe at any speed." A new Holley 600cfm carburator enabled Taz to roar once again, but it still needs a good amount of attention before it hits the highways. I did manage to drive it home from Larry's. Here's the short list:

Main gas tank is rusted, auxiliary tank is cracked.
Radiator has a slow leak
Lots of steering slop; Needs tie rods.
Needs a complete brake job, particularly wheel cylinders.
Transfer case won't engage 2 HI
Minor electrical glitches
Currently has a 3.50 rear ring and pinion; a 4.11 would work better for big tires.

Other than that, it gets a clean bill of health. A thorough bath and detailing has been the first order of business. I actually color-sanded and polished the upper driver side fender, and the paint looks like new. I'll probably color sand the whole thing in due time. Wax on, wax off....

Taz is now temporarily topless as well. Took the top off for the remaining warm months to detail the guts. Stripped out the interior to expose a fairly solid floor with minor rust in the footwells. Next step is to sand down the inside, and have it sprayed with a thick coat of Line-X. Toughest stuff out there. Check out the build-up of another Bronco HERE to get an idea of what the interior will look like once it is Line-X'ed. Here's Taz's transformation thusfar, so stay tuned-

bumper will soon disappear as well clean rear some body work to look forward to
only in America
just to show you what I can do...
not too bad, wait til it's lined...
minor rust... dig my keychain...
