Updates August 14, 2003 Now that Taz is back home, and I have a week left before the fall semester starts, I have been busting ass trying to get the body slicked out and painted. Everything has been done in my garage or in the driveway, and I bet I have had at least 10 other Bronco owners stop by to check out my progress. I am thinking about starting an early Bronco club here in Starkville, because living smack in the middle of town in plain view of everybody cruising Montgomery Street has turned my project into a well-known event. It is starting to look like a bad-ass Bronco... I've tackled it in sections, starting with the front cap. I set up a table in the garage, then primed and painted both fenders and the grille. Once that was done, I started by spraying the outer fender wells, and bondoed a few dings and dents, sanded the door jams, and primed the driver's side. Once I had that finished, I began work on the floor pans. Using an electric drill with a paint and rust stripper, I roughed up the floors and treated it to a nice bath of rust converter, which turned all the rust black. Then I fiberglassed a few patch strips over some of the spots that had rusted through, and lined the floors with Herculiner, a do-it yourself bedliner kit. |

The Herculiner is some cool stuff...I had gotten a quote to have the interior sprayed with Line-X, and the cheapest I got was $500. No thanks. I spent a little over $100 on 3 cans of Herculiner and some supplies, and did it myself. It went on really easy, and has a texture just like the more expensive spray-on liners. The floors are now solid as rocks, and look great. After it had dried, I primed the hell out of the interior, and then painted it all the same color as the body. It looks killer! I also got the new turn signal assemblies in, and installed them in the grille with the new black polyeurethane bases, and put in the headlights. I polished the chrome trim rings, and they shine like new money. |

| All that is left to do to the body now is to finish spraying the rear passenger side and tailgate. I might tackle that tomorrow, on the 1 year anniversary of this restoration project. Eventually, I'd like to have the passenger side rocker panel replaced, but I might save that for later. Right now I am waiting for the roll cage, hi-rise hood, fender flares, seats, and door inserts to arrive, Give this thing 2 more weeks, and it will be scary! | |||||||||||||||
